Chico David Colvard was born in Augsburg, Germany.
The son of a WWII German-Jewish mother and African-American father raised in the segregated south of Georgia. After pursuing a career in the theatre arts, Chico went on to eventually study and teach "race, law & media" related courses at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
Chico is a former Filmmaker-in-Residence at WGBH in Boston, a member of the Producer's Lab at Firelight Media and Sundance Institute Creative Producing Fellow. He is the recipient of numerous grants for FAMILY AFFAIR, including the LEF Moving Image Fund and Paul Robeson Fund for Independent Media. FAMILY AFFAIR is his feature-length documentary debut and will have its worldwide premiere in competition at Sundance.
